A Sabbath Series- Part 1

Do you consider your Sundays?

Consider them to be Special?

Consider them to be Sacred?

and…

Consider them to be Simple?

This is where we begin…

 Keeping Your Sabbath Special

What really makes the Sabbath a Special Day for us?

Here are a few questions we can ask ourselves before the next Sunday rolls around?

1.)How do we prepare for the Sabbath?

As in… the day or week AHEAD.

-Are we reading our Bible, regularly?

-Are we asking the Lord to prepare our hearts and minds for how He will speak to us?

-Do we cleanse our hearts and minds before worship, thru the week, so that we can be ready for what He has to teach us?

2.)Has Our Sunday become a day of “filling in time,” and other useful purposes?

-How can we teach our children that this day can be spent in so many ways.  Family, Friends, Focusing on the Edification of Others, and working to weed out the things that tangle up our weeks?

3.)Have we shared the Sabbath with any one in a while?  Do you see it important to share the Gospel on or thru the week with others?

-How about making the Sabbath special for another family- inviting them into your home, or sharing a special gift or treat, an encouraging verse or word of kindness ?

Weed through the Questions that Might be keeping you from Your Sabbath Being Special, and try  a few of the Following:

1.) Prepare and Plan Ahead- Your Hearts, Your Lives, your Plans, and Your Focus

2.)Decide as a family what will be good to eliminate from your Sunday routing and discuss how to replace that space.

(For example:  Perhaps your family go your separate ways on Sundays after Church- or even before?

Bring the Family back together, by making the Sabbath special for everyone.)

3.) Fill a box, Jar, etc, with family input of ideas that your Sabbath will consist of.  Draw each Saturday, and plan ahead.

4,) Plan your meals ahead, and even incorporate extras for last minute invites.

5.) Keep the banter low- in other words- Arguing, bickering, and complaining are banned on Sundays. ( although this is a good and Godlly daily habit.)

6.)Honor the Lord with your attitudes.  Perhaps you had other plans in mind.  Perhaps the preacher said something that stepped on your toes, or maybe someone in church annoyed you?  Let it go.  Let God have this day.

7.) Switch it up.  Making Sunday Special doesn’t mean – always finding the most exciting or entertaining thing to do.

A Day of Rest –  intended to be- Keep it that way… and Honor Him.

The Next Sabbath Series will Be – Keeping the Sabbath Sacred.

One of my mentors shared this Sunday Tip with me and it has finally allowed me to actually experience rest on Sunday. She recommends starting the Sabbath on Saturday night. Her family enjoys a nice, big meal Saturday that will provide leftovers for Sunday’s lunch. This way there’s no food prep that needs to be done Sunday morning while we’re trying to get out the door, and Lunch can be ready in as little time as it takes to reheat.
Also, she get’s back into the saddle Sunday night, rather than Monday morning – starting food prep, planning and laundry which allows her to avoid that awful Monday hangover. Since I’ve followed her advice, I’ve enjoyed my Sunday rest AND my Monday mornings!
