I Don’t Have To Be Perfect To Parent

I have so much to learn.  About so many things.   Some days just seem to be easier than others.  You have days like this also?

One thing I have learned?  That I don’t have to be perfect to parent.

Why?  My God fills in my gaps, and even covers the areas where I think I have it together.

Are you afraid of “ruining your children?”

Or perhaps you see another family that looks like they are, “doing things all right?”

We can learn from one another. We can read all of the amazing books written to us and for us, read blog posts that guide, direct and encourage us,,, and we might still feel defeat.

I have been a mom for over 20 years, and I still have those days.  Why?

Little by little, I will allow doubt, concern, and dismay crowd into my thoughts and my direction.

This is only a lie from Satan.

Listening to the Spirits direction and seeking wisdom from God’s Word will be lead me back.

Yes, we have much to learn.  We should be working, striving, and listening to wisdom in our parenting.  In Humility.

But, really…. Don’t expect to be perfect.  There will always be a better way to do things, or a new idea and twist on this or that..but, if you are always feeling like you haven’t attained, then where is God’s Victory over the hurdles He has helped you through already?

This is it.  We have one time around.

I have to choose daily to not allow critical spirits, or comparisons to bring me down as a parent.

Sometimes, my biggest critic is myself.

Rest in the place where you are.  Strive only to change what God  is showing you to right now.  In this moment.  There will always be something to work on.

My heart reaches out to you today.  Allow your self some grace.  Yearn for His Daily Sufficient Grace.

God doesn’t want my perfection – He is waiting for my dependence.

I see smiles like this one – and it helps me remember – He just wants my best – not my perfect.

Isn’t this something we can work on together?  We are called to bear one another’s burdens.  I share this one with you.

Are you feeling the weight of perfection?

I know I will, particularly once my kids get older. I already have moments with Ave….particularly in church…the “Why can’t she sit quietly and color like other people’s kids?!” (even though my kids are the only kids in our church on a regular basis lol)

I’ve so enjoyed reading this parenting posts from you September. I’m squirreling them away for the days ahead.

This was really encouraging – I’m the mom that reads all the books, all the blogs, all the tips and tidbits and then feels defeated. I need to listen only to God for a season and find my confidence in Him. Thanks for this and for your blog!

Kim,  I think that almost all of us mom’s do this as well.  It is the encouragement of other mom’s that will keep re-directing us back to Christ.  Keep pressing on.  We are all in this journey together.  Thanks for commenting!
